About Cable Car Guy

Cable Car Guy Cable Car Guy?

"Cable Car Guy" is a nom de internet for the mysterious and seldom-seen Joe Thompson, who has a mustache and frequently wears hats. Joe is a native of San Francisco, but he couldn't afford to buy a house there, so he lives down the coast in Pacifica. Joe is lucky to be married to a wonderful woman who tolerates his eccentric hobbies. They have a wonderful daughter who is just as smart as her wonderful mother but unfortunately inherited her father's sense of humor.

Joe became interested in cable cars at the age of really young when someone gave him and his sister a cardboard See's Candy playhouse made to resemble a cable car. It came with a real metal bell. Joe would love to find a photo of the See's Candy cable car playhouse.

A Clay Street Hill Railroad train climbs the hill in this woodcut from "The Cable Railway Company's System of Traction Railways for Cities and Towns". September, 2008 Picture of the Month.

Joe is a student of San Francisco history, which is deeply entwined with the history of the cable car.

Joe is a lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants. Anything that connects the Giants and cable cars makes him happy.
